Midnight black at the core, this wine has a small but vibrant magenta rim. It smells of cola, anise, fireplace smoke and sloe. The palate is vigorously firm, with saliva-wicking tannins and somewhat sour acidity. The wine’s flavors mimic the nose while adding notes of blackberry and tar, but the finish is modest. This taut and angular wine needs very rich food to help it show in a more positive light. Bottle aging won’t improve the wine as it is really quite simple, so enjoy it now.
