Pitch black in appearance, with glass-staining magenta legs, this red exudes non-fruit characters like creosote and grilled meat. The palate is more generous in fruit nuances, including blackberry and black plum skin. Bold and firm, it shows well now but could use another year in bottle, at least. It’s a mouthcoating and sumptuously styled wine, the refined tannins and lifting acidity producing a smartly balanced skeleton. This is a people pleaser for those that prefer heftier styles. Drink now–2021.
