Cabernet Sauvignon (Clare Valley)

This wine is extremely closed on the nose, showing only the vaguest suggestions of black currant, dark chocolate and savory soy sauce. This is definitely a wine to decant. The palate is firm in youthful rigor and feels densely textured. The tannins are steely but sculpted, and the acidity tingles the back palate. Strong notes of charcoal, dried elderberry and black plum skin resonate on the finish. Hopefully this will relax with more time in bottle. Though clearly an ambitious wine, this is slightly tough and chewy now. Drink 2023–2026.
