Château Lagrave 2009   Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon (Médoc)

abv: 13.5% | Price Tier: $$

This wine has a dark and slightly hazy core, with strong garnet tones. The generous nose smells of beef jerky, charred wood, lit cigar and wild berry. The palate echos this precisely while showing a lovely harmony of a nicely matured, medium-bodied wine. The tannins are drying out a touch, but they meld well with the generous if highly integrated acidity. These two traits nicely highlight the wine’s medium-minus concentration. Drinking well now, this bottling shows the ripe fruit and balance of a solid vintage in a midlevel, midterm wine. Drink through 2017.
