Beetle-shell black at the core, this wine has a medium mulberry meniscus with crimson inflections. Its nose is totally closed, barely whispering graphite overtures. The palate is also reserved, strict both in flavor and feel. Pronounced acidity as well as dry, chewy tannins tightly rein in the flavors of blackberries and boysenberries laced with licorice. There’s just enough freshness and roundness of fruit to let this structure get away with its steeliness. That said, the flavors are simple and evolving as evidenced by its tobacco and earthy tones and the finish is short. Drink this earlier on to enjoy its fresher, more sapid side.
