Midnight black at the core, this wine has a deep violet-inflected, maroon colored rim. Its nose is big and brooding, with dominating notes of peat fire and char-grilled game. The palate is equally dark, with flavors of roasted black plum, cassis and incense. Tones of cinnamon and licorice enliven the medium-length finish. The palate is broad, with gentle tannins and bright, well-integrated acidity. Though there are plenty of smoky tones, there’s no overt new oak character. Drink now through 2019.
