Romero de Ávila Salcedo 2015 Portento Roble  Tempranillo (La Mancha)

abv: 14.5% | Price Tier: $

Raven black at the core, this wine sports a neon magenta rim. It smells enticingly decadent, with black cherries, roasted red plums and licorice spewing from the glass. The center palate is softly fruity, with well-managed, finely grained tannins. The racy acidity is mouthwatering and even a bit edgy. The finish is brief and lightly dry. While the acidity works well at the table, the jammy fruits favor very specific styles of dishes, particularly rich ones with fruit sauces. Drink now through 2017.
