Saturated black core with purple inflections and deep fuschia rim. Somewhat aromatic nose of creosote, gravel and baked blackberries. Highlights of licorice and rosemary add a second layer of interest. The wine shows balanced alcohol, and the perky acidity gives the full body nice tension. The tannins are broad and husky, creating a fairly dry mouthfeel on the finish. Like the aromas, the flavors focus on nonfruit characteristics. A suspicion of dark chocolate suggests some new oak use. Drink now to 2017.
