Petrol black at the core, this wine sports a tiny, purple-inflected magenta rim. Its aromas are gutsy and ripe: roasted fig, brewed coffee and vanilla extract. The palate is pleasantly dry and savory, with mineral and damp-earth overtones to the peak-of-ripeness, lingering black-plum fruit. With integrated, cleansing acidity and mild, sculpted tannins, it does a terrific job of walking the tight rope of not-quite-overripe fruit. Loads of fans will enjoy this supple wine that can go solo or pair up with fattier foods. Drink now–2019.
