Inky black core with ruby rim and streaking. Effusive nose of briar patch, black currant and blackberry alongside anise, thyme and marjoram. The palate appears more restrained with near-overpowering notes of lead and potting soil. Structuring acidity and strapping tannins make this a linear wine despite its full body. Vanilla and coffee grind notes of new oak are perceptible but remain in the background. Finishes medium and full of youthful fruit. Drink now to 2016. No need to wait. Good value for its category.
