Impressively black in color and spice-saturated in aroma, from the start this seems sure to be a polarizing red. The nose has a pleasant touch of varnish-like volatility and a lot of baked black fig notes. The palate, however, tastes much fresher. There are plentiful blackberry and black currant tones along with a spry nuance of black currant leaf. The tannins are well-managed and the acidity is perfectly integrated together they provide ample lift and oodles of drinkability. There’s just a touch of oak character here, displaying some sweet spice and caramel. Drink now–2025.
