Smelling of iron and eucalyptus, this is a classic Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon. Broad and rambunctious on the palate, it is packed with flavor. Sooty underbrush and peat brick deliver the initial nuances. Then, a dark, brooding fruit character follows. Blackberry and black currant dominate, and there’s a strong sprinkling of cinnamon as well. The palate feels robust with posturing tannins and refreshing acidity. There is much to like here, even if its relatively brisk finish suggest it won’t wear too well in bottle for long. Drink now–2024.
