Atlas Wines 2018 429˚  Shiraz (Clare Valley)

abv: 14.5 | Price Tier: $$$

Jet black in color, this wine has a dense, forward and opulently ripe nose. It smells of cassis, menthol and cola, with a contrasting hint of damp underbrush. Full-bodied, with evident but not overly intrusive alcohol, the palate layers on glycerol and extract with slightly choppy, firm tannins. It is all lifted by fresh acidity and a light notch of minerality that contributes additional freshness. While this wine starts off rather bold, it finishes with a nice edge of refreshment. Drink now–2026.
