Opaque to the core, this wine starts with aromas of asphalt, fireplace cinders and some black fruits when first opened. Eventually, vanilla extract comes through, too. In contrast, the densely-fruited palate is more giving, tasting of fig compote and blackberry jam doused with cinnamon and clove. Most remarkable, however, is the fire hose of burning alcohol. The wine is discombobulated with goopy extract and prickly alcohol overpowering the lazy acidity. Rounded, dense tannins coat the palate but offer little support. Drink now–2024.
