This pours a deep red color with black streaking at the core. The nose is restrained and elegant, showing blackberries, black currant and creosote. The palate verges into the brusque lane with ponderous, drying tannins and only medium acidity—a surprising juxtaposition for the variety. Wait until 2015 to see if the tannins resolve could possibly hold through 2020.
