This wine carefully plays the line between old and new world styles. The color is opaque and laced with black. The fruit is generously ripe—but not overripe—with roasted plum and baking spice notes. On the attack, the palate is full and opulent, but then the tugging tannins come in to rescue the balance. Finally, the balanced acidity allows the finish to linger a bit and should help the wine to develop some to benefit over the next few years.
