This wine boasts a seriously imposing black core with a miniscule maroon rim. The nose is equally compelling and demanding, with loads of spice, game and black raisin. The palate is equally pungent with tar, roasted red-meat and cracked black pepper. It also shows the first notes of evolution in its worn leather and sweaty saddle top notes. The attack is generous in weight and lightly viscous from start to finish. The tannins are a bit admonishing, with a slightly severe dryness that would probably be quite welcome with hearty food. The medium acidity rests in the background and helps pave the way for the long finish. Enjoy now through 2017.
