This wine’s core is saturated with black but lifted by magenta and brick notes toward the meniscus. The nose smells of licorice and medicinal herbs as well as black-cherry LifeSavers. Medium-full in body, the wine is not as heavy as the nose suggests. The caressing tannins and mouthwatering acidity on the attack make this a great wine by the glass or as an apéritif at a gathering. The tannins do come through just a bit gritty on the finish, creating some nice texture. Drink now through 2016.
