This bottling is imposingly black. The nose harbors a hint of funk à la hung game. The palate is deeply concentrated, mostly with non-fruit flavors such as peat, creosote and damp forest floor. Black plums, blackberries, cedar and burning leaves add layers of nuance. Though full bodied, with a lightly creamy midpalate, the mouthfeel remains far from heavy thanks to lifted acidity and firm yet finely sculpted tannins. This is a complete drink that should appeal to a broad audience. Enjoy now through 2018.
